Committee Membership
One of an Alderperson’s main roles is legislative. As the legislative body of the city, the City Council usually meets once every month to exercise general and specific powers to improve the lives of Chicago residents.
Committees play a critical part of this role as they convene to be able to debate and gain clarity on legislation that are being proposed by the Mayor’s Office, City departments, and sister agencies. Before any ordinance or resolution is able to be voted on by all 50 Alders, legislation must pass through committee.
