Workers' Rights
Regardless of immigration status, race, gender-identity, sexual orientation, or religious affiliation, workers in the City of Chicago have rights:
- Right to the Minimum Wage
- Right to Paid Sick Leave
- Right to work free from retaliation (COVID-19)
- Right to work free from sexual harassment
- Right to be paid overtime for hours worked over 40 hours
- Right to work free of discrimination
- Right to One Day Rest In Seven/Meal break
- Right to your control and hold on to your identification documents (e.g. work visa, passport, State ID, birth certificate)
The right you are entitles to may vary depending on the industry and size of your employer. If you have faced discrimination or are unsure about the rights applicable to you, please call the Ward Office or the City of Chicago Office of Labor Standards to file a complaint.
